BREASTFEEDING COALITION of the WABASH VALLEY
The Coalition originated in 2009 with a grant from the Indiana Perinatal Network and has met monthly to promote and protect breastfeeding in the Wabash Valley (Vigo, Vermillion, Park, Clay, and Sullivan counties). Projects have included participating in Health Fairs; providing the Lactation Station at the Vigo County Fair, Parke County Fair and Terre Haute Block Party; sponsoring “Breastfeeding Works” to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week (and month), and sharing educational resources with health care provider
VISION: Families in the Wabash Valley will realize the health benefits for mother and child through the practice of breastfeeding as the culturally acceptable primary source of infant nutrition.
MISSION STATEMENT: The Breastfeeding Coalition of the Wabash Valley will develop strategies to increase knowledge, and promote, support and protect the practice of breastfeeding in the communities that make up the Wabash Valley in Indiana.
GOALS: To increase the number of women choosing to breastfeed and to increase the number of women who continue breastfeeding throughout the first year of life and beyond.
